Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart we announce that after 20 years of baking we have had to take the painful decision to close permanently.
For a variety of reasons we had already made the decision in the autumn of 2019 to sell the business. As some of you know, Liz was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease two years ago and that seemed like a sign that it was time to retire. There was a trickle of interest, but this kind of sale is a slow burn and then the Covid-19 restrictions took hold. Ultimately, we had a number of offers to buy the business but these became fewer and fewer as the Covid uncertainty remained. Our last prospective purchaser withdrew on 23 May. Those virus restrictions decimated our customer base overnight when all the pubs, cafes, hotels and restaurants were forced to close.
It has been a pleasure and privilege to work with customers large and small, commercial and individual; we love being a part of the local community. Helping baking enthusiasts and enabling them to gain baking confidence through our courses was another joy – and we may try and hold more in the future at other venues. One of the hardest things about all of this is simply not having a day-to-day relationship with you good people.
We would like to thank everyone wholeheartedly for your custom and support over the last few years. We wish you all the best in the future and especially in these uncertain times. Our heart goes out especially to those in hospitality and catering.
Take good care and stay safe and well.
Rachel and Liz
